Support Organizations & Programs

Finding the right support can make all the difference. We’ve gathered reputable organizations and community resources—national, state-level, and local—to help you access services, education, advocacy, and tools that empower your family.

National Organizations

National Autism Association (NAA)

A non-profit that provides tangible, effective resources directly to families and individuals with autism at no charge.

The Arc (National)

A national non-profit organization that promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through advocacy and support.

Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC)

A collection of trusted national organizations offering autism research, advocacy, education, and family support resources.

TheSpectrum.org

TheSpectrum.org is an educational initiative by the Council of Autism Service Providers (CASP) designed to help families navigate autism in children. The site offers resources such as downloadable tools for treatment decision-making, evidence-based research, and direct access to Board Certified Behavior Analysts® for personalized guidance.

Texas State-level Organizations & Programs

The Arc of Texas

The statewide advocacy organization for Texans with IDD. They provide resources on future planning, special education (“A New IDEA” manual), and alternatives to guardianship.

Texas Autism Society

The primary state organization for support. It offers online Facebook groups, Spanish-language support, and virtual recreation/social groups for autistic adults.

Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC)

Children’s Autism Program

LA state program providing focused ABA services for children ages 3-15. This program is time-limited (180 hours per year, 720-hour lifetime cap) and designed to supplement, not replace, comprehensive therapy.

Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC)

Medicaid Waiver Programs

Long-term service programs (like HCS and CLASS) that provide services (such as respite, residential support, and therapies) to individuals with IDD. These programs “waive” family income for eligibility, but often have 10-20 year waitlists.

Local Resources

UNT Child and Family Resource Clinic (Denton)

A counseling and training clinic at the University of North Texas that serves the Denton County community, offering counseling to children, adolescents, and families.

DFW Advocacy

Provides professional special education advocacy services in the DFW area.

United Through Hope (Frisco)

 Provides programs for individuals with disabilities, including counseling, “Allstars” social skills groups, and support groups.
